In 2008, organizations representing Advanced Practice Registered Nursing (APRN) reached consensus on a standardized model for APRN regulation, Consensus Model for APRN Regulation: Licensure, Accreditation, Certification, and Education. Between 2008 and 2010, 48 organizations endorsed the model. During that time, the LACE Network consisting of 30 member organizations representing all four components of APRN regulation: licensure, accreditation, certification, and education was established.
The purpose of LACE was to establish a non-hierarchical structure (cooperation and communication) that provides a mechanism for transparent and continual communication among the organizations tasked with implementing the APRN Consensus Model, enabling all organizations to have an equal voice. The LACE Mission, Functions, and Values was approved in 2009 by all participating organizations.
